Koh Chang (เกาะช้าง) is the second biggest island in Thailand yet has only recently begun development as a tourist destination and the Marine National Park that surrounds it is still relatively unknown in travellers’ circles.
Koh Chang is situated in the North end of the 52-island Marine National Park. It is only 4 hours by road plus another 30 to 45 minutes by boat or ferry.
The coastline of the Koh Chang Marine National Park is spectacular and there are beautiful beaches, coves and bays around the islands. It is a wonderland of fertile virgin rainforests, untrekked jungles, high peaks, breathtaking waterfalls, beautiful beaches, spectacular coastlines, colourful coral reefs, clear blue sea of warm waters, idyllic islands, fascinating wildlife and an abundance of healthy marine life.
The name means Elephant Island. Koh Chang was named for the elephant shape of its headland, although elephants are not indigenous to the island. At present, there are 8 main villages in total. It is a mountainous island and Khao Salak Phet is the highest peak of all at 744 metres. The island has an area of approximately 217 square kilometers.
Buses to Koh Chang run regularly from Bangkok or alternatively you can fly down via Trat airport. Thai Smile Travel can arrange all your transport needs at competitive rates.
